Shore Excursion in Paraty: stay away from the crowds on our small group tours!

Planning your Cruise Ship Shore Excursion in Paraty? Then you’ve come to the right place! The key to the cruise ship days in Paraty is to take you to great places and avoid the crowds. Not always easy as the town can be invaded by thousands of visitors but we do a great job! Check out our rave reviews on cruise critic.

Our Paraty Shore Excursion is an active day out suitable for all age groups and fitness levels showing you the rich variety and highlights of Paraty.

It is also a great contrast to the other shore excursions in the other ports of Santos, Ilha Grande, Buzios and Rio. And finally, it works in any weather!

So if you want to experience Paraty’s combination of fascinating history, culture and nature then contact us for prices and availbility.

Rainforest Waterfall Tour by Jeep and Old Town City Tour

After taking a jeep up into the hills behind Paraty we then walk through the Atlantic Rainforest on the historic Gold Trail, the paved road built by enslaved Africans to bring gold out of the Brazilian interior. At the end of the walk there is time to take a refreshing swim in natural pools formed by the waterfalls. Before lunch we visit a cachaça distillery to sample the local rum that is still made the traditional way.  For lunch (not included) we stop at a local restaurant serving typical Brazilian dishes. Afterwards we head back towards Paraty to explore the architecture and history of the old town centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on foot.

Shore Excursion Highlight – The Gold Trail

It’s hard to believe but almost all the other cruise ship shore excursions don’t include the Gold Trail. We’re not complaining! It means our shore excursion in Paraty takes you well off the beaten track and away from the crowds. We walk on an original section of the Gold Trail, dating back to the 18th century when it was first built to bring out gold from the Brazilian interior and onto ships bound for Portugal via Rio de Janeiro.

The Trail we walk on runs through Atlantic Forest so in addition to the fascinating history this is a great chance to experience the biodiversity of Paraty.

Shore Excursion Highlight – Waterfalls and Swimming Holes

From the thrilling Toboggan rockslide to the relaxing Tarzan’s pool (pictured) a quick swim is the best way to cool down after the walk. These local waterfalls and swimming holes are unique to Paraty and you won’t find anything similar in the other destinations on your cruise ship route. Don’t forget your swimstuff!

Shore Excursion Highlight – Cachaça (rum) Distillery

Brazil’s national cocktail, the Caipirinha, is rumoured to have been invented in Paraty (as recommmended by a local doctor!). Whilst this may be disputed, the fact that Paraty produces excellent craft cachaça is beyond doubt. In the 19th century there were over 100 stills in and around Paraty. On this shore excursion in Paraty we visit one of the few remaining distilleries where the rum is still made the traditional way. A tasting session is included in the visit. Don’t forget your credit card! This is a great stop for souvenirs or gifts.

Shore Excursion Highlight – City Tour

The jewel in the Paraty crown; and a highlight of any cruise ship shore excursion, the colonial town is a must-see. After lunch we return to Paraty by jeep where your guide will take you round the old town on foot.
