Family Kayak Tours in Paraty

Fun for all the family on Kayak Tours in Paraty

A kayak tour on the bay of Paraty is an unforgettable day out for the whole family to cherish forever!

To make sure that all the family members feel at ease we recommend booking a private tour for your family. In doing so we can plan the tour so that you go at a pace that suits everyone. For a successful day out we pair one adult with one child in our stable yet responsive double sea kayaks. 3 kids? No problem. One of the kids gets to paddle with the guide.

For most kids the highlight of the Family Kayak Tour is paddling the mangrove (intertidal forest) where we go crab spotting. With breaks at deserted sandy beaches there is plenty of time for swimming and exploring making this a beach day out with a difference!

As a private tour you get to choose the times and duration. But bear in mind that the conditions are almost always better in the mornings (calm waters, less chance of wind and rain). Also we recommend tours of up to 4 hours duration.

Minimum age requirements for Family Kayak Tours in Paraty

For our most popular regular kayak tour, the Mangrove, Beaches and Islands by Kayak Tour we recommend a minimum age of 14 years old for participants.

Furthermore we require  teenagers to be accompanied by at least one parent. Setting age requirements is the easiest guideline to booking a tour but obviously it is not an absolute measure. An active 12 year old with paddling experience may well be much better prepared than a 16 (or even 26!) year old couch potato.

If you are an active family that enjoys outdoor activities together on a regular basis a kayak tour in Paraty will be fun for everyone. We have a 100% success record with kayak tours for kids and regularly operate tours for kids from as young as 5 years old.

If in doubt get in touch and we will be happy to tailor the itinerary to suit your family.

Safety first!

In addition to our top quality fibre glass double sea kayaks we have lifejackets (mandatory use) for everyone, including small sizes for younger children. Our English speaking kayak guides are all trained in kayak rescue and are experienced in operating tours on the bay of Paraty. The Bay itself is perfect for inexperienced paddlers and families with young children as it is a protected flatwater bay.

What to Bring on Family Kayak Tours in Paraty

We advise people to bring what they would on a trip to the beach. The kayaks have plenty of storage space and we provide dry bags for anything that shuldn’t get wet. During the summer months of December, January and February the sun is extremely strong and hot. You will burn even on a cloudy day. With children we need to be even more attentive.

With this in mind we strongly recommend:

✔️ Hats

✔️ UV rashvests (long sleeve)

✔️ Sunscreen – high factor – applied before you leave your accommodation to allow it to absorb – don’t forget the legs! – reapply during the tour.

✔️ Sunglasses

✔️ Water (best 1.5l per person) and snacks to keep energy levels high

We have dry bags for phones etc, things you dont want to get wet.

(Yes, you can bring towels but you’ll see that Brazilians tend to use sarongs more and drip dry after swimming rather than carrying around heavy, sodden towels)
